See How Easily You Can Process Your Dreams

  • by

What do we do with a dream once we’ve had one?

The first thing we do when we’ve had a dream is to write down the dream as soon as possible when you wake up so it’s not forgotten (Habakkuk 2:2,3).

Later in TWJ (Time With Jesus) offer the dream up to the Lord, ask him to breath on it, then wait quietly for insight and understanding to come. If it’s of Him, it will gain life and we’ll often receive either wisdom (practical application) or revelation (understanding) from the Holy Spirit. If nothing comes to us regarding the dream, we can put it to the side trusting Father God’s character that He’ll bring it back around at a future time if it’s needed and/or important. He’s a big, big God and won’t let us miss it if he has something for us!

Often times it’s in later reflection that we see what a dream meant which serves to increase our faith in both the dreaming process as well as God’s intentionality of communicating with us on our journey of life with him.

You have a Spiritual Radar

Each of us have spiritual radars that are based on the gifts, faith, and realms of influence God has given us. Because of this…

  • It’s normal to have dreams about one’s own family, job, friends, interests.
  • Intercessors/watchmen and watch-women will often receive dreams in the areas/issues where they’re called to prayer and intercession.
  • Other times, God’s just looking for sons and daughters, heirs of his promises that are willing to share with his heart, which results in seeing His kingdom come in various arenas of life.

Lesson’s Learned by Experience

  • In my experience, those who are faithful in what little God gives them receive increasing measures of revelation and understanding. Sometimes this can even come after we go through a pruning process; a time with few if any dreams. This results in an increase in dreaming at a future point in time because our roots have been allowed to go deeper into the fertile soil of faith so that we become even more fruitful. (More blessed are those who have not seen, but have yet believed (John 20:29b NES).
  • There are also just seasons in the spirit when for whatever reason we have seasons of more dreams and seasons of less. One can have 5 or more dreams a night for a season that lasts even years. Then have seasons where dreams are few and far between. None of these seasons reflect our value before God. They’re simply opportunities to be like Paul as he says, I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret…I can do all this through him who gives me strength. Philippians 4:12a, 13.
  • For myself I’ve learned to treat all the dreams; God dreams, soul dreams and even demonic dreams the same because, There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known Luke 12:2. So I bring them before my heavenly Father and ask him to breath on them. Then I move forward where I sense the fruit of the Spirit: peace, love, and joy. If something stays with me leaving me unsettled, we call that carrying a burden. We carry those burdens in prayer until either God releases revelation and practical application, or I receive a sense of release that’s manifested through a feeling of the burden lifting, which feels like peace or resolve.
  • If I don’t feel God bringing any revelation concerning a dream and I feel it’s important, then I’ll share it with some close friends to get their input.
  • Otherwise, I just put set it to the side and trust God’s big enough to bring it about again if needed. Dreams are not about being exactly right or wrong in their interpretation. Dreams are about gaining life in the Spirit. If it’s life-giving, then you’re on the right track!

Three things to do this week…

1. Take some intentional time to ask God to speak to you through your dreams.

2. Write down any dreams you have.

3. In your time with Jesus, ask God to breath on your dreams for understanding and application.R

Remember that the process of dreaming and hearing God’s voice is intended to be a life-giving experience. If it leads to frustration or fear, it’s ok to lay it down for awhile and come back to it again later. Enjoy the journey!

Go with God.
